Dark Shadows (1966)

Overview
Dark Shadows is an American gothic soap opera that originally aired weekdays on the ABC television network, from June 27, 1966, to April 2, 1971. The show was created by Dan Curtis. The story bible, which was written by Art Wallace, does not mention any supernatural elements. It was unprecedented in daytime television when ghosts were introduced about six months after it began. The series became hugely popular when vampire Barnabas Collins appeared a year into its run. Dark Shadows also featured werewolves, zombies, man-made monsters, witches, warlocks, time travel, and a parallel universe. A small company of actors each played many roles; indeed, as actors came and went, some characters were played by more than one actor. Major writers besides Art Wallace included Malcolm Marmorstein, Sam Hall, Gordon Russell, and Violet Welles.

Detailed Bias Analysis
Primary
The film's central themes are apolitical, focusing on supernatural drama, family legacy, and personal tragedy rather than societal or political issues, leading to a neutral rating.
The 1966 'Dark Shadows' television series features a cast that is primarily traditional, with no explicit race or gender swaps of established roles. The narrative focuses on gothic melodrama and supernatural themes, without presenting a critical portrayal of traditional identities or incorporating explicit DEI themes into its central storyline.
Secondary
The film portrays Christian symbols like crosses and holy water as genuinely effective deterrents against supernatural evil, particularly vampires. While not a central theme, the narrative implicitly validates the power and protective qualities associated with Christian faith and iconography.
The original 'Dark Shadows' television series, produced in the late 1960s, does not feature any explicitly identifiable LGBTQ+ characters or themes. The narrative focuses on gothic horror, supernatural elements, and complex family dynamics without incorporating overt queer representation.
The movie does not contain any action or adventure elements.
The 1966 "Dark Shadows" is the original television series, not an adaptation of prior material. Its characters were established for the first time within this show, meaning there was no pre-existing canon from which a gender swap could occur.
As the original production, the 1966 series "Dark Shadows" established the canonical races of its characters. There is no prior source material or historical record for its characters to deviate from, thus precluding a race swap.
